This game is short, hence the small time i put into playing it. Basically you play a game as three bearded men (ZZ TOP!) and go out into the world on a boat and do different adventures. Simplistic game with minamalist type graphics and funny sounds. This game would be great for a young child to play. I would say a child of 5 or 6 even. These stories are almost like a bedtime story. I won't run a pro/con list to this game as it is quite short and fun. I recommend for young children or for very casual gamers. This also would be a good game for a young person starting out to play games for the first time or just want a game that is very easy to play with stories. The stories will repeat after awhile, but there is enough this won't happen for awhile. Recommended for young children for a clean fun game. Not recommended for hard core gamers.NOTE: One more point is this game has achievments. So achievement hunters may also want this game for the easy achievements to get for it..apparently.. Imagine that a hipster graphic designer made a children's book vaguely about Norse mythology, and then a student in a computer science class decided to put it online and make it interactive. That's Burly Men at Sea. It is esthetically appealing, definitely. But there's so little actual play it's not even really a game. It's mostly watching your dumb characters engage in tame interactions over which you have no control, and clicking from one painstakingly slow dialog or travel scene to the next. I wanted to enjoy this "quiet adventure," thinking it might be charming and quirky in the same vein as Amanita's point and click games, but I was disappointed, and so very bored.I received this game in a humble bundle for a few bucks. Had I paid ten dollars for it, I would ask for a refund.. Slow and boring.. it's the kind of "game" that would suit an iPad reading the story to put your kids to sleep. It's not bad by any means, it just has its limitations. Choose your own adventure vibe, but there is 12 endings which you can knock over pretty quickly. Still it's solid enough for what it aims to do. I got it in a bundle (and just fired it up out of curiosity) but you might want to wait for a sale if you can't stomach the full price for the couple of hours (max) that you will get out of it.. Finished Burly Men at Sea on the 21.Oct.2018Who are the game developers?Brain&Brain (Brain&Brain[brainandbrain.co])What's the game about?Steady, hasty and brave go on a quiet sea adventure.General feeling after finishing?A general sense of peace and quiet.Note: you get to buy your adventure as a physical book for around $30, hardcover.Story? There's more than 10 of them to be told, and you'll discover them individually, by making different choices at every replay.Gameplay?Click-and-drag mechanics, with a bit of click.Graphics? Some of the most beautiful, yet simple, I've seen in a game.Sound & Music?I'd describe it as cheerful and also (repetitive, I know) quiet.Replayability? At least 10 different adventures await the player.Time played?Around 1 hour, but will surely pick it up in the future at some point (I haven't gone on all the adventures yet).. I can only say this is a beautiful game.I like the story, but I do believe it won't suit everyone's taste. For anyone seeking a contemplating, dark, mature, serious, full of plot twist kind story, I don't think it's for you, but don't let what I said stopping you from trying this game out. Also, IMHO, you can play this game with your children. I've gone through 2 story routes when reviewing this game and I think the story is safe for everyone. Younger audience will probably like the artstyle too.. Burly Men at Sea is a short game about the adventures of three bearded brothers finding a message in a bottle with a map. One trip consists of three locations each time with a single decision how to proceed at each location and ends with the same return scene home. The first station always is a whale who swallows the ship and the sailors. There are three ways to proceed from there. Depending on the choice, the brothers continue to one of three follow-up locations (a boat race with death, an island with a giant, a gigantic octopus). At each of these locations, there are two alternative ways to proceed, i.e. the game has six different locations at the final decision level. Each of these final six locations again has two different choices that finally will lead back home. Altogether, there are 12 different ways to play through the game. This is where Burly Men at Sea fails to be an entertaining game. The first playthrough was an exploration. At the various stages there are minor items in addition to the core choice that can be clicked upon for a reaction. I spent some time with those before moving on. It took me about 25-30 minutes to play through the game for the first time before returning home. I could and should have left it at this. Instead, I took 5 more trips to experience each decision situation at least once. I passed on taking each decision choice at the third stage as it was pretty clear by that time that each final choice will lead to a limited number of different ways to return. Once you know the choices, a playthrough can be done in about 10 minutes. But it is extremely repetitive. There’s always the whale level. I don’t need to play this twelve times. Each of the intermediate levels has to be played four times and each final level twice if you want to see each ending. Not worth it unless you want to unlock 100% of achievements. I wonder if the developers really expect people to play the same game with minor variations twelve times.Burly Men at Sea was a huge disappointment. From what I’ve read about it before and the few pictures I saw, I was expecting a charming little indie game with some nice storytelling. What I got was a repetitious annoyance with not much in terms of story, odd controls on the PC as the game was developed for touchscreens and even the artwork quickly became boring and drab. Not recommended. Even the 100 minutes I spent with this were too long.. Fun game to relax with, simple, beautiful, and clever.. Good looking but very, very short and buggy (music + getting stuck). I liked it. This game is a visual short story.
